More about Family...Than about food!

I was so blessed to be able to spend 2 weeks with my family in celebration of my little sister Mallory's Wedding. When I moved out she was still 11 years old, so I haven't been there on her special days and dates and I wasn't going to miss one thing when it came to her wedding.

I couldn't have taken 2 weeks off and driven from Seattle to Utah, flown my husband out to meet us before the wedding, traveled down to her California reception, shared a bonfire on the beach, taken my boys to Disneyland with family and toured up the coast to the golden gate bridge and the redwood national parks and shared all of the fun moments and memories, at the beach, at the house, planning her Bridal Shower with my sister in law, meeting his family, and being able to be there for every part of everything if it wasn't for the cushion that Shelf Reliance has given our family. So I don't feel this post is out of place at all. I feel that everything I do with Shelf Reliance is more about Family than it is about food. It gives me time, money and flexibility to do more and spend more time with my family... "but aren't you gone several nights a month"... yes and those nights my husband puts the boys to bed and I miss an hour or two of that day with them, but I gain so much more when I save time cooking in the kitchen, and have the flexibility to do more with the extra income. I even got a few minutes to get a tour of the new Shelf Reliance building!! I feel that I would have missed so much... I'm so blessed to be able to share in these special moments together with my sister and with my whole family over those 2+ weeks that we were able to travel. And a week later go on a much needed retreat with my husband. Doing all this while in my first trimester...it took all the energy I could muster to keep going with a smile on my face. But I'm home now and at my 2nd trimester of pregnancy and looking forward to a boost in energy, you will be hearing from me again :)

Now that I am home and recovered I'll be back to posting!!

These Shelves won't do the dishes...but they work magic in the Pantry!

I love my Food Rotation Systems!

It's been such a blessing to be able to rotate and store our food efficiently. I also love it because my kids can help. I often joke...it's the only place in the house where I can tell them to go find something and it's always there :)

I love being able to look at my shelf in a glace to see what we are low on. As I run out the door I can glace over and see that we are low on re-fried beans and that we could use a few more cans of this or that if we see it on sale.

I have a #10 unit, that holds only the large cans. What a great thing! Before I had boxes stacked on top of each other. It was a pain to look and see what the expiration dates were on things or if the box contained multiple items. Now I have a row for Fruits/Veggies/Proteins & Desserts and Grain... I know that I am being efficient because I'm always using the first in first out system.

The other benefit of it that as a mom I really value, is the safety. It holds all my food neatly and organized, but most of all when I go to grab something I can do it in .5 seconds and with one hand. I don't have to move things around or fiddle with moving cases to get to the cans I need. I can ask one of the boys to grab something and know that it's a job they can do.

This is Jason Budge, He's one of the masterminds behind building this storage shelf system. I know that my husband was looking into building us one of these types of shelves or something to effectively work with our food storage. He priced it all out and was drawing up plans when we saw we could get one for ...I think we paid about $350+ we decided to just buy it, knowing the cost of the other and the labor exceeded it, yet it would be nearly impossible to move and an eye sore to boot! Know I have an investment, and effective rotation system. I'm saving time by having my food rotate it's self, I'm saving money because I can see what I have, what I use and I can buy accordingly, and my food storage is used oldest first so I don't have cans getting left behind. I'm making a long term investment because this can easily move with me to the next home or to a new spot in the house if needed! I could never say that about 2X4 wood shelves.

And I love that it's beautiful and organized!

Gluten free for the whole Family! New Products!

Growing up with a baby sister with Celiac Sprue (which seems to be the ever growing "gluten free" right now) I know that having the proper foods and nutrients when you are on such a limiting diet can be overwhelming and 23 year ago it was even scary, having very little resources for products that are now available right here.

If you are familiar with food storage, and are "Gluten free" your probably getting a little rice heavy in the "long term food storage" department. I'm so pleased to announce that Shelf Reliance is now carrying Gluten free grain products! We also offer many other options for those who are gluten free.

Alot of products out there contain many ingredients such as thickeners and taste enhancers (can I leave it at that?). Our body's, especially those with a such intolerance's as those with celiac have don't react well to those. We have such an extensive line of foods that are great for those who have Gluten and other intolerances because.... it's JUST FOOD! Strawberries are JUST STRAWBERRIES, peas and corn are just that. You can have instant beans and meats that have no preservatives or added enhancers or thickeners.

This is a great advancment for those who want to have a healthy supply of food for thier families, to help get along... today, tomorrow or in an emergency!

Amaranth

Eggs...Your going to l♥ve what you see & taste!

I'm Very excited to introduce you to my friend...eggs!

First the facts:

YES! These are real eggs!

Whites? Yolks?

Yes these are Powdered Eggs, including the yolk and the White.

Can you scramble them? Or are they just for baking?

YES you can scramble them! And I only bake with them now!

How does the cost compare to just buying eggs at the store?

If 24 whole eggs are $3.10=.12 an egg

or if 12 eggs are $1.99 =.16 an egg

Thrive eggs are $20.99 for a #10 can = .08 an egg

Seriously?

They are real eggs, they cook up, bake up, and measure up like real eggs do!

Here are a few shots of the eggs, from pouring them into the pan till ready to eat.

Since my hubby asks for these on a regular basis before work, there are a few different shots.

I add Freeze dried Sausage, green and red bell peppers, and onions to his eggs and typically roll them in a whole wheat tortilla and he's off to work!

These ones I added Salsa Verde to after they were about done and sprinkled some grated cheddar Cheese...

I got a "thank you " text from him before he headed in to work!

Going to bake cookies with these I was very pleasently surprised to find that they... are perfect.

They are always there, no matter if I'm making a triple batch for church or PTA or a single batch...
